{"id":3656,"date":"2006-05-19T18:54:00","date_gmt":"2006-05-19T18:54:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/elizaphanian.com\/?p=3656"},"modified":"2006-05-19T18:54:00","modified_gmt":"2006-05-19T18:54:00","slug":"what-difference-does-it-make","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/elizaphanian.com\/?p=3656","title":{"rendered":"What difference does it make?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I have continued to mull over the question of fundamentalism, on which I have already <a href=\"http:\/\/elizaphanian.blogspot.com\/2006\/05\/spiritual-cancer-or-why-i-hate.html\">typed <\/a><a href=\"http:\/\/elizaphanian.blogspot.com\/2006\/05\/chicago-statement-on-biblical.html\">many<\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/elizaphanian.blogspot.com\/2006\/05\/getting-personal-with-fundamentalism.html\">words<\/a>. A particular question comes to my mind, though: what difference does it make? For it seems to me that fundamentalism constitutes something like a parasite &#8211; it hitches a ride on the spirituality inherent in reading Scripture, but the only thing which insistence on inerrancy contributes is: the perpetuation of the ideology of inerrancy. I can&#8217;t see anything of spiritual or theological worth which it contributes. Which may just be my blindness, of course.<\/p>\n<p>However, I&#8217;m going to put this to the test. I&#8217;m going to write a few posts over the next few days (prefaced with WDDIM?) looking at particular texts, and asking that very question.
