I recommend his &#8216;The Crisis of Islam&#8217;.<\/p>\n<p>Also:<br \/>Roger Scruton, The West and the Rest (good description of why the Western culture is both different and superior to alternatives, reflecting Christian roots)<br \/>Daniel Pipes, Militant Islam Reaches America (solid)<br \/>Robert Spencer, Politically Incorrect Guide to the Crusades (excellent, a must read, shatters illusions)<br \/>Karen Armstrong, Islam, a Short History (good statement of conventional opinion; remarkable whitewashing of controversial elements)<br \/>Maxime Rodinson, Muhammed (solid; written before PC became rampant)<br \/>Oriana Fallaci, The Rage and the Pride (strident, striking, bracing, refreshing)<br \/>John Gray, Al Qaeda and what it means to be Modern (best philosophical analysis of the situation that I have read)<\/p>\n<p>On my bookshelf yet to be digested:<br \/>Oriana Fallaci, The Force of Reason<br \/>Bat Ye&#8217;or, The Decline of Eastern Christianity under Islam<br \/>Norman Daniel, Islam and the West<br \/>Andrew Bostom, The Meaning of Jihad<\/p>\n<p>Good websites:<br \/><a href=\"http:\/\/regimechangeiran.blogspot.com\/\">Daily Briefings on Iran<\/a><br \/><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jihadwatch.org\/\">Jihad Watch<\/a><br \/><a href=\"http:\/\/www.danielpipes.org\/\">Daniel Pipes<\/a><br \/><a href=\"http:\/\/www.juancole.com\/\">Informed Comment<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>First, read this.
