{"id":4056,"date":"2005-09-27T08:56:00","date_gmt":"2005-09-27T08:56:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/elizaphanian.com\/?p=4056"},"modified":"2005-09-27T08:56:00","modified_gmt":"2005-09-27T08:56:00","slug":"schleiermacher-and-mysticism","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/elizaphanian.com\/?p=4056","title":{"rendered":"Schleiermacher and mysticism"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Came across <a href=\"http:\/\/mysticbourgeoisie.blogspot.com\/2005\/09\/zen-and-art-of-cultural-shell-game.html\">this<\/a> and was reminded strongly of my gripes about Robert Pirsig&#8217;s understanding of mysticism, which I wrote about <a href=\"http:\/\/www.moq.org\/forum\/Elizaphanian\/schleiermacher\/schleiermacher.html\">here<\/a>. I&#8217;d want to rephrase some of the points about Kant in that paper, but I think the basic argument has held up quite well. Nice to know I&#8217;m not the only sceptic on that front (and that much of the reverence towards &#8220;Eastern religion&#8221; is in fact a &#8216;return of the repressed&#8217; &#8211; in other words, the Eastern philosophies, Kyoto school etc, were first influenced by Western philosophy, before they then became popular in the West as something &#8216;foreign&#8217;).<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve started up my &#8216;Learning Church&#8217; sessions again, which are still &#8211; remarkably &#8211; popular.
