What I am disturbed by is that the more I read up about it, the more hostile to it I am becoming. So much so that my <a href=\"http:\/\/elizaphanian.blogspot.com\/2005\/08\/insomnia-and-islam.html\">previous notion<\/a> of calling the terrorists <Islamists is now seeming incredibly naive.\n\nMy thoughts are still evolving, but for the time being what I am most struck by is the violence inherent in mainstream Islamic theology, the glorification of the warrior (the martyr killed in battle) and the absolute insistence on a <a href=\"http:\/\/elizaphanian.blogspot.com\/2005\/07\/them-and-us.html\">&#8220;Them and Us&#8221;<\/a> mentality. For someone who has recently started to appreciate Rene Girard&#8217;s take on Christianity, it all seems abominable.<\/p>\n<p>Certainly we need to start taking the claims of Islam seriously.
