Possible remedy:
GK
Robinson (for want of someone worse)
DF
Terry (very solid, but needs to be accompanied by someone swift, so, holding my nose)
Ferdinand (plonker, roll on King/Woodgate/another)
P Neville (mostly under-rated; excellent holding player)
WB
Cashley (I’d rather have Bridge at the Bridge, but Cashley is a better wing back)
Lennon (or SWP)
MF
Parker (box to box; back up in Hargreaves and Carrick, all of whom could do the job)
Lampard (tossup between him and Gerrard, but Gerrard’s suspended for Croatia)
Inside forwards (old fashioned concept I know)
Crouch & Rooney (gotta have both, neither are best deployed at the cutting edge)
Star on the Christmas tree
Johnson/Defoe/Owen (I’ve been impressed with Johnson, but Owen – if he regains his fitness – is made for this role)
Basically, don’t play Gerrard on the wing
Sort of a 2-3-2-2-1 formation…. collapsing into a 5-4-1 when we don’t have possession…
